This new work represents a significant, entirely new course of knobs that we could use to control multiple genes and for that reason influence whether or not specific genetics characteristics are expressed and to what extent – we could essentially dial gene expression up or down with great accuracy. Such a capability may lead to gene therapies that would mitigate age-related degeneration and the starting point of disease; in the study, Church and his group demonstrated the capability to manipulate gene expression in yeast, flies, mouse and human cell cultures. We envision using this process to investigate and create extensive libraries that record which gene circuits control a wide range of gene expression, said among the study’s business lead authors Alejandro Chavez, Ph.D., Postdoctoral Fellow at the Wyss Institute. Most other digital manuscript submission systems have similar loopholes that may easily be hacked. The most important lesson is that incentives work. This pressure exists almost but is particularly intense in China everywhere. It is consequently no surprise that the many inventive ways to video game the peer-review program to get manuscripts released have come from China. The companies mentioned above that provide fake peer evaluations all result from countries and China in Southeast Asia, & most of the authors involved with these cases come from the same areas. But it will be a mistake to look at this as a Chinese or Asian problem. The nagging problem may be the perverse incentive systems in scientific publishing.
